I've been nymphing without an indicator the majority of the time. I'm a big fan of leaders with a brighter color in the middle to help with depth control as much as (or probably more) than detecting strikes. The subtlety of detecting strikes on a tight line is a lot of fun.

If you don't tie your own leaders the Rio Euro Nymph leader is fantastic. If you're concerned about being a purist while you double-nymph rig with weight, you can shorten the leader on the butt end (it's 9ft out of the package without tippet) so it's not the "euro style" per se and it still casts fine... especially with a couple nymphs and some weight.
