Landing Trout with 11' Rods

Post by brntrout »

Since I have not had a chance to fish my 11' long rod yet, I was wondering if there is a trick for landing trout with it, other than sliding the fish to the bank. Other landing methods might just result in breaking the rod tip off?

I was always worried about high sticking the 11 footers, but found them easier to handle than you would think. I usually just held the rod at an angle to the side and kept the rod tip up like on a more normal length fly rod. One other option to keep from high sticking is to get a longer handled net.

Unfortunately, I can attest to the accuracy of this. :(
