North House Folk School in Grand Marais is again offering its popular class for beginning-to-expert anglers to experience float-tube fly-fishing in trout lakes along the Gunflint Trail. The four-day class starts at the North House school campus on the shore of Lake Superior with some basics including casting help, tactics and float tube safety. On the next three days we go to pristine trout lakes to fish for brown trout, rainbow trout and if conditions are good smallmouth bass. This is an ideal class for people curious about float-tube fishing, or those who have a float tube but haven't gotten out to explore its possibilities. The three instructions, including myself, Dave Shaffer (PicketPin on the forum), have fished Minnesota lakes in float tubes for years and will share our knowledge with you. The class in past years generally has drawn about 8-10 people, although up to 12 can sign up. For more details, including tuition costs and the early sign-up discounts, go to https://northhouse.org/courses/fly-fishing-the-north-shore. If you have questions, feel free to contact me through the North House or this forum. For people who don't have a float tube, we have a couple of Fish Cat float tubes for free loan on a first-come basis. The school is located next to the city campground, and some participants rent spaces there during the class, or stay in one of the other campgrounds, motels or lodges in the Grand Marais area -- Dave Shaffer
