Weighted Collar Question?

Has anyone had any success with weighted collars?

A few years ago I read about weighted collars and tied up a bunch of flies. I gave them away to some friends and they said they did better on other patterns.

Due to likelihood of finicky trout, I don't have good data.

I used pink collars on bead head (Brass and Glass) PT's and Pink Squirrels.

Before I tie more up this winter I though I should ask if anyone still uses the collars.

Mcktrout, I'm not sure what you mean by weighted collars? I guess, I have never heard of anyone say, they have used weighted collars before?

I tried a pack I found in a fly shop junk bin. Even deeply discounted, they weren't worth the cost. they don't add much weight, and there's much cheaper and easier ways to add a hot spot.

Thanks ... I suspected they're probably not worth the effort it took to snug up to bead head.

Yep. I especially like the adhesive strip lead that the euro's are so fond of. I cut it into elongated skinny triangles with a rotary cutter and straight edge. Start at the bend and wind up, then part way back down. Instant taper, and significant weight.
