I fished a large body of trout water N. of 90 Tuesday night. I only caught 2 fish but both were nice. I was just curious as to what was hatching. It was a decent sized fly and appeared to be white. I got to the stream around 6:30 and there was a few of them coming off the water. As the evening progressed there was more and more of them. I didn't see any fish rising to them but the birds sure did like them.

The fly was probably a Stenonema mayfly. There is a Stenenoma species that does emerge this time of year that is very white looking in appearance. However, without better details of what the fly looked like its hard to say for sure?

Is "decent size" 8-10 (1 inch) or 14-16 (1/2 inch) ?

Without capturing one I guess I cant say for sure. I'd say better than a 1/2" though.
