Spring Caddis Flies - Hatches

The problem most people have with tying and fishing gray caddis is they use the wrong size flies. The true natural gray caddis brachycentrus adults we have are a size 18 & 20, "not" a size 16 ! In SE MN our gray caddis adults have medium to dark dun gray wings, charcoal gray bodies and dark dun gray...

Re: Filling my fly box

You could add flashback orange & white cream scuds in size 14, San Juan worm in earthworm brown. Make sure your smaller PT nymph's are dark /black in size 16 and 18. Its possible the Dark Hendrichkson hatch might still be around, so have dries in 12 & 14's, especially if you know the streams that ha...

Re: Resolving the Current Trout Habitat Problem

At this point, we are moving forward to resolve the problems of the past poorly designed projects. Dwelling on past mistakes over and over doesn't resolve anything. Instead, its time to develop new stream design plans so we do not make the same mistakes again!

Re: Resolving the Current Trout Habitat Problem

I just got back from the tour that was held today. Every stream project we toured as a group, in crucial areas (outside banks)where in-stream habitat should have been installed that did not utilize rock was washed away, sometimes severely. Even non crucial areas (straight reaches) where rock was not...

Re: Stream reports?

Sure hope you’re right. Last year this stretch had what I would call an “old fashioned “ hatch of large numbers. Another stream in the same area had a temp of 57 last week without any sign of DH’s. Not a single nymph under rocks or fly in the air is worrisome. If you did not see any DH nymph's that...

Re: Stream reports?

Fished between two named bridges S of 90 on some hard to access water. On the water from noon to four or so with a friend. Very few rising fish. Water very clear and 47 degrees. Got a few on crane fly and midge larva. Beautiful day. Could see significant flooding signs and stream changes. Didn’t se...

Re: Donna Rasmussen is retiring

I have nothing but good things to say about Donna Ramussen. you'd be hard-pressed to not acknowledge that Donna's decades of work for the betterment of Fillmore County (and beyond) have been a really good thing. Wendy's quote above, is right on the money 100%, including Donna being a very nice perso...

Re: Stream reports?

Today and Tuesday should produce better angling results with stream temperatures improving both days. Tuesday conditions will be ripe for BWO's to possibly hatch in above average abundance. :D
