Re: Great Waters Expo

I agree. After Tom Helgeson died, the show was in a bit of a slump until TU took it over. The last couple have been enjoyable, and very well attended.

Re: Brushing Streams to Improve Access

Don't think much of this. Not sure where they are talking about, but it sounds like manicuring. I will admit that I get frustrated by the head high growth in summer, but I think dealing with it is part of the game. I worry about unintended consequences, such as erosion, if stream side vegetation is ...

Re: Lead

I use tungsten beads and tacky weight on the leader. Still have some lead wire that I use as under wraps on some flies. Probably use a substitute when it runs out.

Re: 2/1 Report (and a question)

I have found Hook and Hackle house brand lines to be a very good value. They perform as well as the expensive stuff at half the cost.

Re: Wading Boot Outsoles

Can't speak for the Michelin rubber, but I've used Simms, Patagonia, and Korkers rubber soles and they wear well, but I would add studs. For most situations, they are OK without, but when you get into an area with slimy rocks, the studs give you a little more grip. Also find them helpful in climbing...

Re: Stream Conditions

Fished south of 90 yesterday with JRS. A little breezy, but that helped keep the blasted gnats at bay. Nearly perfect water conditions, with just enough color to make ya a little smarter. Very aggressive feeders up in shallow lies. Solid dry dropper fishing. Flat water stretch in afternoon had lots ...

Re: Stream Conditions

I would say 12-15 inches. some was Tuesday night rainfall, and some was the cow herd tromping around.

Re: Stream Conditions

Fished yesterday So. of 90. A medium sized water was off, but fished very well. A smaller one was gin clear. longer leaders and small flies was not the best plan with the howling wind. The popular stream was off, but fishable. Moderate success there, but probably mostly due to being old, and getting...
