You live local to the streams, so I say go for it. I’m up here in the Cities, and I’m not sure it’s a good idea for us to travel longer distances to small towns to go fishing.
I was out on a creek north of 90, using a vintage Heddon bamboo rod. Managed to get skunked. Didn’t see any bugs, no rising fish. I probably wasn’t fishing deep enough. The wind was an issue at times. Still good to be out on a stream rather than cooped up at home.
There are few mayfly hatches left in SEMN. Farming chemicals have pretty much killed all but blue wing olives. The last really good light Hendrickson hatch I saw was probably 15 years ago. I’d be more apt to have your friend use a bead head caddis pupa. They are abundant.
I got out on a popular stream south of 90. Lots of people were out in the morning, but thinned out by noon. The water was a little dirty but very fishable. There were tons of egg laying caddis everywhere, the fish pretty much ignored everything I tried. Had lunch with some friends, and good conversa...
