Re: Any hatch updates?

I saw at least two species on Sat. Most were grey caddis, but did see several of the larger tan winged.

Re: Any hatch updates?

Caddis were emerging for around 40 minutes on the stream I was on south of 90 yesterday. Certainly not a blanket hatch, but enough to get most of the fish in a pool looking up. Wish I wasn't assigned yard work duty today.

Re: Stream reports?

I've had issues with both spin and fly fishermen. Most being fly fishermen. I first try to see if they need help or are new to the sport. If this clearly is not the case then it's a fight fire with fire type of situation. Usually they are cutting you off and high holing you in my experience. They st...

Re: Fishing Reports

Friday there were just enough BWO's to get a few pods of fish to rise consistently. We both managed a couple of fish from each pod on top. Mostly a streamers/nymphing day. Sat was better and more bugs and fish looking up. Still not what I was hoping for hatch wise. Sunday was the much better day. Th...

Re: Vise/tool advice

I think Griffin makes the best vices for the money. https://www.griffinenterprisesinc.com/index.cfm/product/15_2/superior-2a-fine-point-vice.htm. There are a lot of great vice companies, but everyone I know that has a Griffin has never had any trouble out of them. I personally prefer Regal vises, bu...

Re: Great Waters

I forgot to mention it was nice to see Snowbee there and starting to make their way in the US market more. Took a look at their thistledown line meant for 2-5wt rods. Couldn't get any information on the grain weight from them. Just looked like like a heavy WF 4wt line with a very thin running line t...

Re: Great Waters

I have not gone in many years and thought it was a good show. Picked up a few tying things, but had no interest in getting any new gear.

Re: Great Waters

I'll be there tomorrow. Can't fish with streams all blown out locally. :(

Re: Favorite Hatch

This is a tough question for me. I really enjoy any hatch. BWO's would be my first choice. Brings up some big fish and has some length to it. Grey caddis would be my first choice, but it is so short lived if you don't time it right all you catch is the tail end by the next weekend during most years....

Re: Fiberglass Rod Revival

I fish glass at least 1/2 the time I'm fishing. The other 1/2 is older graphite such as the Winston WT or DL4 if I'm not fishing bamboo. Much of the newer glass has the recovery of medium action graphite. Certainly not the cannons that many of the fast actioned graphite rods have of today, but how m...
