Re: What is it about this year?

April was murderously good. Didn't get out a lot in May, but when did, also very good. Getting away from crowds is often key.

Waders - swap or sell

My teenagers always need new wading boots; now they getting to point of needing new waders. So I'm looking to trade the smallest pair we have: Redington youth waders, size 10/12 (that's a reference to approx. age range). They are used but in great shape. Stockingfoot. I'd be up for trading them for ...

Re: 5/11 and 5/12 Fishing Report

Looking at gauges for most of the main/larger branches, I'm guessing they are turbid right now.

Anyone seen Rush Creek today? From Rushford going S/SE the gradient of rainfall decreased significantly it looks like.

Re: 5/11 and 5/12 Fishing Report

Good report JRS. My neighbor was south of 90 on 5/12 and he stopped counting at 50, all on dry flies. I was a little jealous, but also valued the time I spent guiding my kids in their warmwater fishing endeavors. Older kid got a giant smallie to hand. Younger kid speared a sucker. I'm hoping to hit ...

Re: Sunday 5/3 Report

Fished Friday by myself, 9 AM or so to maybe 2-3 PM range south of 90. Fish really looking up; ate SH emerger pattern very well until around 10 AM. Pronounced lull 10 AM to noon while it was very cloudy and a little cool. Took a nap until around 1245 waiting for the sun. Started again around 1 PM wi...

Caddis dry fly - hackle or not?

Never put hackles on my EHC or DHC patterns. Been fine for me, but the other day as I was working on that skitter, I figured a hackle would have made it a lot easier. What your experiences and thoughts on hackle vs no-hackle for these patterns? One factor is time at the vise; it's so much easier to ...

Re: Stream Conditions and Hatches

JRS do you fish that pupa pattern in any particular way? Standard nymphing or do you sometimes put a shot up of it, swing it down and try imitate rising toward water surface? I never really do it, so wondering about your technique. The stomach contents of those engorged fish on Saturday was nearly 8...

Re: Stream Conditions and Hatches

I've watched a lot of people learn to cast; most closely my two kids. One thing I'd say: if you have time to develop your casting skills, but want to catch fish on flies right away, start by swinging flies downstream. My youngest kid can do this very effectively and he is not yet a teen. But he cann...

Re: Stream Conditions and Hatches

Good notes BNT.

STF: I will try to post some pics of the fish from the north of 90 system that had the blanket hatch. You won't believe the visuals. Absolute football shapes.
